I told a mum in the playground I was still bfeeding my 8month old ds and she said " Wow you are a supermum... you are going to be like those mums on that program breastfeeding your 5 year old" ( said in a horrified manner as if I had just told her I eat bogies or something)

omg

yeah that's right charmkin
because feeding an eight month old is just the same as a five year old...
what a nonce
tell her children are all going to be on asbo's in ten years time because she weaned them too early
tell her you saw a programme about on channel 5

georginarf · 09/03/2006 11:03

yes tell her her children will be obese AND stupid

still can't get over how wierd people are about breastfeeding.

bundle · 09/03/2006 11:05

just flick some bogies at her

Tatties · 09/03/2006 12:06

I can't wait for people to ask me if I am still bf when ds is 1 soon...

blueshoes · 09/03/2006 12:18

That mum is a silly cow

Mazzystar · 09/03/2006 12:20

just say "yes, i hope so" and look serious

Feistybird · 09/03/2006 12:23

Just say 'well my husband is still feeding, so, yes, I expect so'

LucyJu · 09/03/2006 13:23

Apparently, there are plans afoot to make a program about male breastfeeding...

I KNOW!

Would anyone bat an eyelid at bottlefeeding an 8 month old? Or a two year old for that matter?

Am fed up with these attitudes, am just not gonna mention it in RL...

I loved the bf prog - wonderful to see mums bf as & how they want to. Good for you charmkin with bf your little one - I'm bf my ds4 at the moment & bf my others on demand for as long as they wanted. I respect others parenting choices but wonder why my choice to bf seems suitable for comments!

koolkat · 09/03/2006 21:11

charmkin - the comments we bf mothers get are really quite astonishing !

Shows how primitive people have actually become in thinking that bottle feeding should be the norm.

I won't bore you with all the comments I get practically ever day because I am bf-ing a 20 mo toddler Angry

FrannyandZooey · 09/03/2006 21:19

It gets easier IMO....after you carry on for a while longer, they start to realise you really are beyond the pale and cease to mention it - even my mother hasn't seen fit to comment for at least 6 months (her last one was "well for god's sake please don't ever do it in front of any of my friends") :o

NotQuiteCockney · 09/03/2006 21:21

I haven't had any flak about "still" bfing DS2, who is 17 months now.

But then, I don't feed him in public (except on planes), and anyway, I'm way too tough-looking for anyone to dare to say anything.

koolkat · 09/03/2006 21:41

NQC - lol - could you please teach me the tough look ?

I have a very deep, loud voice, will that scare the stupid comments away ?

misdee · 09/03/2006 21:46

have had a few comments about 'extended breastfeeding' and did shock one lady last week who asked if she could take dd3 home and isaid 'ok but i will have to leave my boobs with you too' Grin

NotQuiteCockney · 09/03/2006 22:07

koolkat, I strongly recommend being fairly big, and having a shaved head. That sorts most of these sorts of problems out.
