Cup vs Bottle

I'm going back to work 10th September and at the moment George is having 3 breasfeeds from me a day. One first thing, one around 4 ish and another at bedtime. I want to continue feeding him myself for the morning and night feeds but the afternoon one will have to be replaced with formula as I have struggled with expressing.

Te problem I have is he will not take a bottle. He bites it and get frustrated. He does drink water very well from a Tommee tippee first cup. I haven't tried him yet with milk from it but am worried he will guzzle it too quick and it will come straight back up. Also I feel like a bottle seems more of a comfort.

What do you think is it ok to go from breast to cup? If not anyone got any ideas on how to get to take a bottle?

How old is he?

I go straight to cup if that's what hell take. I asked age because they aren't supposed to have bottles after 12 months anyway due to possible teeth problems. And as he's on solids already seems a bit of hard work trying to get him to take a bottle if you're going to have to wean him of it in a few months anyway.

Agree don't worry about trying with a bottle. You'll only have to move him on soon.

He's nearly 8 months old. Didn't know that you were supposed to wean from bottles at 1. Dreading it though as so easy with breastfeeding. As soon as go to something that measures the amount they take then adds stress.

I am going straight to sippy or doidy cups as I don't want to bottle feed him. I found he wasn't keen on water from sippy but likes expressed milk from it. I also get a lot of feedback that babies wait till mum is back so not to get too stressed about the day milk feeds.

Mine went to nursery at that age with free flow cup. Was fine. No tales of guzzling!

DD went straight to cup (I was glad to miss the bottles out tbh).

My DS (7 months) uses a doidy cup to drink water and I am hoping that he will drink milk from it too when he starts nursery at 10 months - I am really keen to avoid using bottles if poss - also, if I am around then he more often than not wants a breastfeed. If he is with his Dad, he is fine for a longer period of time. There is a good chance that he will just wait until he can feed directly from you.

Same issue here- she takes formula perfectly from a sippy cup for her afternoon feed. She now has it like that even when I'm around and it makes life sooooo much easier. However, she has extended her evening bf slightly but I don't mind the extra cuddles Grin
