Reoccuring thrush in breastfed baby

Baby first had thrush at 3 weeks , given nystan . Didn't clear properly so then daktarin. Then I returned as never gave me anything and I didn't know to ask until I read online. So I used nystan and dc daktarin. There are still small patches in the cheeks , feeding isn't painful . Should I just leave it or return to gp.

I have been treating us both for last few days but it never seems to go completely. Will baby grow out of it? She is nearly 5 months so had thrush for 4 months really!

Same here, it's not nice is it. I was given fluconazole for 2 weeks and the daktarin gel for us both. Then spoke to a bf support lady who said I need to be on tabs for 14 days after I think it's gone or it just comes back again. So if it's still in dcs mouth he will give it back to you - and I am not risking that pain again!

You need to treat it properly in both of you - if you don't have pain in your breasts then you probably don't need tablets, but use cream on your nipples and gel for the baby and keep using it for a few days after symptoms are gone.

Has your dd got a nappy rash?

She did have a rash so I used canesten on it as recognised it as thrush.

Me and my son had to have daktarin for about 3 weeks to completely get rid of it. We were told that even if it appeared to go, to carry on using the daktarin until the end of the tube. It hasn't come back (this was 3 months ago)!! :)

instead of dropping nystan onto tongue- rub it all around with bit of swab (sterile from chemist- you can also get wooden ice lolly stick things (forgotton what they are called) to hold mouth open) or clean finger or cotton bud right on the white bits (be careful with this one) - we had it for 2 months until I worked out dropping on tongue was useless and it went in a week and we carried on using it for another week. weaned on cherry, peppermint and sugar! :(
