ok she was born at 5.45 yesterday am. Was feeding ok during the day but since 9.30 pm last night she has jus literally been at ny breast everytime I take her off she cries so I haven't slept at all and my nipples are so so sore already:( I know my milk won't be in yet but she has had a lot of meconium 3 loads not noticed wee maybe due to the v dirty nappies? I'm now sterilising a bottle as I his need to sleep even just for an hour. Any ideas or is this normal as I do not remember this with my other two

I think I went for my first walk with the pram when she was about 2 weeks old, she was totally fine, then when she was about 6 weeks decided she hated it and screamed! She did settle after a while though.

Don't be scared to say no to visitors for now, they can see her in a few weeks or a month, I had loads and I remember wishing afterwards that I had been a bit tougher.

Plus when you are really struggling, remember that everything is just a phase and it will pass at some point, honestly :)

Think I can feel my milk coming in feels like a burny feeling ? She been a bit irritable feeding this am think it's her latch not sure but have a breastfeeding DVD from the hosp will have a look at that .

Tangointhenight · 05/08/2012 10:15

And YouTube too, that's how I learned how to latch dd properly because the midwives were useless and my nipples bled, one night I was in the bath I watch lots of videos on YouTube and learned how to fix the latch myself! Good excuse for some 'you' time :)

Yes sounds like your milk is on its way!

Cheekychops84 · 05/08/2012 12:42

She Is still very clingy she falls asleep on my breast then when I try to put her in the Moses basket or hand her to someone else she wakes and starts sucking her hand ?

narmada · 05/08/2012 14:53

Normal for her to fall asleep on breast. You can try tickling her feet

Best site I ever found for learning about feeding visually was Jack Newman's - sorry can't link now but if you google, you will find his little videos.

What's her output at the other end like? Plenty of wet nappies and poos? I know I keep going on about this but it's important and a good gauge of what is going in at the top :)

nickelbarapasaurus · 05/08/2012 21:04

that's cos she doesn't want anyone else but you - it's survival instinct. she needs to know that her food and warmth source is close by.
wallow in it for now - she'll get used to being apart a bit longer in time, but for now, you're everything to her :)

Cheekychops84 · 05/08/2012 21:09

Yes only noticed 1 very wet nappy today (quite heavy) about 3 yellowy/brown poos ? Thanks will check the vids! I feel the same hate putting her down in her Moses basket feel like I'm abandoning her :(

Cheekychops84 · 06/08/2012 19:15

Ok today had 3 v wet nappies but only one small poo? Is this enuff poo ? Or should I be concerned?

OP posts:
NarkedRaspberry · 06/08/2012 19:22

For BF babies not pooing for a few days is totally normal - although some babies don't seem to have been told about this and poo several times a day!

As long as the poo that is coming out isn't like rabbit droppings - hard little pellets - she's fine.

NarkedRaspberry · 06/08/2012 19:28

Actually yours is too young for the several days thing Blush. Bump for others.

Tangointhenight · 06/08/2012 19:55

Oh no once DD got rid if the meconium she didn't poo for a week between poos so sounds ok!

Cheekychops84 · 06/08/2012 20:21

Oh goodie ! She jus done one it's like a dark yellowy colour so at 5 days old not sure if it's still the meconium or my milk getting thru ?

OP posts:
Tangointhenight · 06/08/2012 20:27

Sounds like its all passed through, it's dark and sticky! Does her poo smell sweet? If so that's the milk :)

HalleLouja · 06/08/2012 21:16

Slings are great (I keep saying this on mn at the moment). I haven't managed to feed in one (as my boobs are GGs) but people do. You can walk around and hold your baby.

I went to a sling library and tried a few out to see what was best. Did this with DC2 but wish I had done it with DC1. As I had a Baby Bjorn for DC1 and it wasn't great.

Cheekychops84 · 07/08/2012 10:55

I think I must be about a G at least by now going to attempt mothercare today for nursing bra's they also have a nice private feeding area so I b safe in there! :)

Just an update baby seemed more content over night but she was only feeding from one breast at each feed as she seemed to be either full up or jus un wakeable ? Even when tickling feet and changing nappy !? Is it ok to feed from one breast at a time ? The other one won't dry up/stop producing will it? Also only took her about 10 mins of gulping and she was done ? Dnt no how we have gone from an hour - 2 hours to 10 mins overnight?

OP posts:
nickelbarapasaurus · 07/08/2012 11:40

it should be looking like a curry sauce right now, so yellowy brown sounds good.

DD only feeds from one at a time in a feed.
:)

nickelbarapasaurus · 07/08/2012 11:41

(she's doing fine - it sounds like she's starting to get used to it being sleep time - but this will change about 8million times over the next few months, so don't get used to it!! Grin)

Cheekychops84 · 07/08/2012 12:40

Lol yes I won't get too comfy : D oh good didn't want milk to dry up! Tell u what those free drinking glasses u get in Mcdonalds the Olympic band is great to use as a reminder of what breast u fed from last!

OP posts:
narmada · 07/08/2012 13:55

If she is gulping then-celebration ! your milk has come in. many babies do feed for only short periods and get plenty. you may just have got lucky there. keep an eye on output, there should be sixish very wet nappies per day, but it sounds as if all is going fine. If you are aiming to bf exclusively then try and stay away from the formula from now on as it may impact your supply. Well done you:)

shoppingbagsundereyes · 07/08/2012 14:06

Dd only ever fed from one breast at a time, even when she was an enormous 1 yr old! She was also a very efficient feeder- fed for 5-10 mins every 2 1/2 to 3 hours and went from the 25 centile at birth to the 91sy by 6 weeks old!

Cheekychops84 · 08/08/2012 09:02

Wow that's great ! She has lost 4% of her weight but hopefully we can right that ! I've not given formula since Friday night so all breast at the mo !

OP posts:
lilbreeze · 08/08/2012 09:11

You're doing brilliantly - anything up to 10% weight loss is fine so only 4% shows how well she's been feeding.

It does get easier I promise, and it's so worth persevering.

Cheekychops84 · 08/08/2012 09:51

I really want to crack this off as it's so much easier then taking bottles out and heating them up and faffing about ! And it's the best for her and of course our babies deserve the best !

OP posts:
NeverKnowinglyUnderstood · 08/08/2012 10:00

sounds like you are doing brilliantly. How old are your other children? (you mentioned them in your OP) If your DP wants to be involved perhaps he could be an extra help with them for now..
It is hard to figure how but you rmilk really is on a supply and demand thing (perhaps delayed by a day though) the more your baby sucks the more your body will make.. tis really clever.. these first few weeks is about your body kicking in with mild production and your baby getting used to feeding... it can be very haphazard but it will work itself out Smile

DairyNips · 08/08/2012 14:51

You are doing amazingly! You can crack this! The first few weeks are tough for some but the convenience of breastfeeding once you get established is just great! My ds is 7 weeks now and I love being able to just grab the changing bag and go knowing I don't haven to worry about bottled etc Smile
