Hello,

I'm sorry I know this has probably been done to death but I'm exhausted and just need a sensible answer relatively quickly if possible.

I'm EBF my 4 week old baby, and all has been well until today. I've developed a sore patch and lumpy breast tissue on one side, latch issues have started on that side for the past 3 days. No idea if this is a let down issue or supply issue etc, but the big question is...

...do I feed through the pain and hope it's a blocked duct that will clear with a bit more attention? OR will overstimulating that side a) make it worse and b) cause the same prob on the other side due to not feeding as much from there?

I'm ever so knackered now and would like very much to sort this before it turns into anything nasty. The big cluster feed sesh is about to start for the evening so if anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear them! Thanks

Feed. Sounds like it a blocked duct. So definitely best to feed as much as you can on that side (don't neglect the other side though as otherwise you might get the same problem there!). Also try massaging the breast tissue to clear any blockage. Take some paracetamol if you start to feel feverish. If not better tomorrow then might be worth going to see the doctor to get some antibiotics - will hopefully clear up of it's own accord but you don't want to get stranded over the weekend with an infection.

thank you! I've just had a hot shower and massaged a little, it is quite sore but there's no redness yet. Will be strict with timing the feed and offer 10 mins good side to every 20 mins bad side for tonight. Hopefully I'll shift the blockage asap. Can a bad latch cause this do you know? Baby is definitely starting to favour the good side and I'm not sure if its a chicken or egg situation...
