Has anyone's toddler self-weaned like this?

DD is 2.9 and still feeding when tired, before naps and v early morning to get back to sleep ( mostly co-sleeps). If I ask her if she would like to stop she stays very emphatically that she is never stopping and is very enthusiastic in her descriptions of why - 'cos it is beeeautiful' and 'it makes me better'.

She has only fed from one side for absolutely ages, the non-used side is her 'pet' Hmm apparently and she is horrified at the thought of feeding from her pet! Just recently she has started to say that she will soon have two pets. Today at nap time she just snuggled up to me and and said she wasn't going to feed, but then forgot and latched on - laughed and said 'oh well, let's try again tomorrow'. I haven't pressed the issue so I don't think she is getting the impression she is too old/she has to wean.

Seems to me as if she has decided to self-wean on her terms (she is very much a child who does things her own way!). Just wondered whether anyone else had experienced similar - would be glad in some ways if the end was nigh, but also pleased that I hadn't had to force it.

Thanks!

Which bit do you mean, the part where she says she's never stopping? My DD1 says the same, she is 3.10 yo and says she is going to have booby forever. One of these days I am going to get it on camera to use it as blackmail material when she's a teenager Grin

I think they all self-wean in different ways as each nursing relationship is different. It's lovely that she's able to do it at her own pace :)

That your DD can go at her own pace, I mean.

Thanks EauRouge - yes, I would like to do it at her own pace.

I mean the bit about her almost developing her own 'taboo' I suppose - deciding herself that she is going to have two non-feeding sides. I'm not sure what triggers self-weaning but it seems that there is something internal telling her the time has come.

yes, DD self weaned at about 2.5yrs.
She never did talk about it, just stopped asking for it.

Then about 3mths later after my milk had gone she asked for it again, but I had to say no.

She still loves my boobs and asks to kiss them everytime she sees them

thanks iusedtobefun2 - that's nice that she asks to kiss them! She woke up and fed again so it will take some time here I think.
