Weaning, mastitis and Erythromycin....

I am slowly weaning DD at 13 months and about a week ago went down to just giving her a big bed time feed and a couple of minutes each side in the morning, as opposed to two big feeds at each end of the day. This afternoon though, and esp during her bed time feed which she just had ( we are in NZ), my nipple was excruitiating. I had masatitis a couple of times when I was weaning DSs and also had it about five months ago with DD and my doctor gave me Erythroycin 400mg. Last time she gave me a bulk lot in case i got it again and so I wouldn't have to pay to go and see her but I have forgotten the dosage. Anyone out there who can help until i can call the doctor in the morning? I really want to nip this in the bud. Cheers.

Hi Paddington if it's just in your nipple it doesn't sound like mastitis, could it be thrush do you think? If it's thrush anti bios will make it worse so take care.

It could be a blocked duct - lots of info here and the BfN's 'Differential Diagnosis of Nipple Pain factsheet is here.

Blocked duct gives horrid nipple pain abs would be overkill at this stage. Self help as per link above prob best.

Thanks all, I did think it was weird that it was just nipple pain and no redness or anything on breast. Will avoid antibios and see what can do with above. Thanks again.
