Symptoms: Much more sicky and cries when feeding?

Hey

So our ds is 3 and half weeks. He seems to have had an awful day. He's started to be sick a lot more. He's also really been crying when trying to feed and he's got a bit of a sniffle. It's awful to watch, he really wants to feed, but then gets very upset and can't.

I know a couple of people with colds have held him in the last couple of days. Could he have caught a cold that quickly or easily?

What should we do? We may try vapour rub tonight. Do we see how things are in a couple of days or take him to the doctor?

Hi there,
Sorry your little one is poorly Sad The sickness could be reflux - have you looked up symptoms? [http://www.refluxbabies.co.uk/information/symptoms-of-baby-reflux.php?cat=2] My baby has silent reflux. Babies often have sniffles without it upsetting them too much (though it's horrid for parents to witness!) You could try raising the head end of the Moses basket slightly to see if that helps - whenever I bf a baby with a cold, Input a little vapour rub or similar on my chest (away from the breast but still close enough for baby to smell). Most vapour plug-ins and rubs, etc advise not for use before 3 months Hmm so it's a judgement call using them before that (I have done so with no ill effect!)
Hope your little one feels better soon Smile

Hopefully someone else will be along with more advice in a bit... Hang in there! Wink

Could be a cold but with a baby this little I would say take him to the doctors so they can check him out.

It's probably nothing, though :) - they have a habit of keeping you on your feet, these little babies ...

Put a bowl of steaming hot water in his room to help breathing. But if you are concerned, ring the Dr. It's important when they are this little. You dont want him getting eg bronchiolitis.

Yes normally protection will last a bit longer esp if the baby is bf, but it does vary.

James - on your other thread you say all is well??

Babies with colds do get a bit frustrated when feeding - HV or doc, I agree.
