Bleeding nipples at eight months.... Why?

My eight month old BF DD suddenly looks like a vampire! My nipple is bleeding from where the milk comes out all of a sudden and I have no idea why. She is v dentally advanced - 8 teeth already with 9 and 10 due to arrive any minute and after a horrible start, we've been happily bf-ing since I stopped hating it at 6 weeks. Any ideas what could be causing it? Is she adjusting her latch due to all the new teeth? Doesn't feel like she's clamping down or biting, just sucking really hard all of a sudden. I got my first period yesterday - could that have something to do with it?

Help!

Baffled and bleeding x

could be teething. does her latch feel any different - do you get a rubbing sensation on your nipple when feeding for example?

any other teething symptoms? flushed face, drool, hands in mouth etc?

you may need to help her adjust her latch again, if she's not latching.... finger gently in her mouth to de-latch and then guide her back on and make sure her mouth is wide open when she does.

if she's teething and in discomfort, you could try giving her some calpol/nurofen and then see how she feeds.

grab yourself some lansinoh in the meantime.

Thank you, already keeping Lanisoh in business!

It didn't hurt until things got bloody and now it's a bit stingy - not sure if that means it's healing. Doesn't feel like a blocked duct or anything but I'm feeling guilty about pouring blood into DDs little body.

Thanks for your response!
