BF and wine

Hi, I'm bf ds2 (19 weeks) and just wondered what the deal is with drinking wine - ie can? How much? How often?

I would only want a glass fi an evening after he's had his last feed for the day (at say 7:30). He will then normally sleep through until at least 6am ish if not 7am.

So can I safely have a drink? Will there be alcohol in the morning milk? I can't be arsed with the wine if it meant pumping and dumping!

I bought some light rose wine which is only 5% as I figured that wasn't much stronger than beer?

Anyway, just wondered where I stood.

Thank you muchly :)

Each unit of alcohol takes about an hour to leave your system, so a large glass of wine (3 units) will be completely gone in 3 hours.

However, the amount of alcohol in your milk will be the same amount as in your blood - one large glass of wine gives you a blood alcohol content of about 0.02%, which is pretty negligible. You'd have to be so falling down drunk that you would be unconscious before the alcohol content of your milk would affect a baby.

One glass is absolutely fine, and no need to pump and dump.

By the way, non-alcoholic beer has an alcohol content of about 0.05%!

Thanks OP, you just reminded me that I have a bottle of Fiano in the fridge. Wink Wine

^ what they said about the wine, but your bf 19 week old goes from 7:30 to 7am?! This gives me hope!! Wink

That's what I noticed blushing, how do I get ds to do that?! Deeding now at nonsense o'oclock but he's only little. How to get longer stretches? Even just 3 hours would be heaven.

I drank wine while BF DS2. So I think tis OK. 8pm, dinner nearly ready and a glass of white while holding tiny DS2 BF, lovely!

Ah thank you all - that is marvellous news :)

And the sleeping through thing? I have no idea! It just kinda happened. His big brother did it too - I think it might be genetic as DH sleeps like he's unconscious Smile
