Ouch! Painful boob

My left boob suddenly got really sore yesterday evening. It seems to be localised in one area and I'm guessing this is a blocked duct? I had a hot bath last night, have been massaging the area (although this is quite unpleasant) and feeding as normal from it. Any other tips?

This breast has always been more "full" than the other. If dd doesn't take a big feed from
It should I express after to drain it down? In fact should I be expressing frequently from that side to keep it well drained? Am trying to get her to do most of the draining of it, but she doesn't always take that much in a feed, especially if I start on the other side with switch nursing.

Just seen other recent thread about blocked duct so will try some of those things although still any advice about whether I should be expressing would be good. Thanks.

Couldn't read & run as am sat nursing at the moment, and you wouldn't want to end up with mastitis! I wouldn't express personally, at least not regularly unless you intend to only express to feed baby by bottle. If you express in addition to bf then your boob will think you need lots of milk & keep producing large quantities. If you let baby feed from you the boob will adjust its production accordingly. It's a supply & demand thing.
Not read the other thread but I've found putting a warm flannel on the sore boob for a few minutes before feeding can help loosen things up, and keep massaging the lump while baby suckles...
HTH Good luck! Smile

Thanks! Yes this is what I was wondering about expressing. Will get the warm flannels at the ready!
