Ouch - 11month old started biting again!

I have had a few dreadful days with my DD. She has started biting when I am BF her and I don't know what to do! She used to do it when she was about 7 months old and I stopped her by putting her on the floor and saying "NO" loudly. She would vry but it stopped her.

Now she just laughs. I try to tell her off and I put her back in her cot but I think I am wasting my time. She howls her head off if I put her down, but if I just say "no" and leave her on my lap, she does it again.

She has formula when I am at work, but I BF on the days when I am at home. I didn't really want to stop BF yet but I can't take much more of this. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get her to stop?

that happened to me at ds age 11 months and 3 weeks and there was absolutely nothing I could do to stop him, he drew blood and did it every time he fed once it started. Then it got so I could not bear to let my breasts near him so we were both suffering, so over a 3 day period it kept happening.

He wasn't on formula at the time at all, I had to stop bf completely and it took a day to stop, by the evening he was on the bottle and the milk took 3 days to go as I had been feeding erratically due to the biting it had reduced in quantity anyway, (when you stop hot showers and baths help with the milk pain)

sorry that is not stopping her biting advice, I could not get ds to stop biting at all, so I stopped feeding and I think that was the only way. It took me a good few years before I could let dh near my nipples (sorry if tmi) so it really affected me the pain, and I squirm now when I watch breastfeeding on tv or read about it in detail as my body has not forgotten the terrible biting pain, don't know how I'll cope if I have another baby as I am a breastfeeding fanatic in beliefs but that pain...you have my sympathy.

none of these worked for me and at 11 months if it is really bad biting and it becomes impossible to feed non of that stuff helped, I did try. as before the final 3 days there had been some one offs.

its up to you teacups I DO HOPE some of these things work for you , as that would be so much better tham having to stop, let us know if it helps.

Still getting that squirming feeling in my breasts at the memory eesh!

Thanks for this girls - am feeding rather gingerly at the moment and am offering her teething keys when a bite looks likely. I am hoping that this is a phase as I don't want to stop BF but I can't carry on with chewed nipples for much longer.

I'll let you know how it goes.
