Objections to breastfeeding

In 1662. Apparently these included:

It spoils the figure
It is noisome to one's clothes
It interferes with gadding about

Things don't change much!

actually I do find bfing a 15 mo a little noisome to my clothes and I have not gadded in quite some time

I dunno, I find bf'ing helps me gad about - the things I gad about doing are not anti-baby and it's all highly portable!

whatinthewhatnow · 10/07/2012 22:18

my breasts look like a spaniel's ears but other than that my figure has vastly improved due to the magic calorie-eating qualities of breastfeeding. I gad about a fair bit. I'm with him on the clothes bit though - they're all stretched or stained. Is that what he meant by noisome?

BerthaKitt · 10/07/2012 22:51

I think so. And maybe that it restricts what you can wear.

It's my nighttime gadding that has been somewhat curbed!

Noisome! Love it! Grin

hazchem · 11/07/2012 07:40

I'm pretty messy so now at least I can blame my "noisomeness" on breastfeeding!

SpagboLagain · 11/07/2012 07:50

It's the cake consumed whilst breastfeeding that spoils the figure
I find it helps with the gadding as an excuse to sit longer with tea and cake

With you on the noisome clothes though

EauRouge · 11/07/2012 08:24

Brilliant, thanks for posting those.

Yes, seems like the reasons have not changed, fortunately we have a better understanding of science now! It's already been shown that it's pregnancy that causes breasts to sag, not breastfeeding so we can scratch that one off the list.

Fashion has improved too, maybe clothes are less noisome now. If I knew what noisome meant I'd be more sure. Grin

I don't know about everyone else but I'm too knackered to gad about after looking after two small children all day.

Noisome means smelly doesn't it?! I don't think I smell.....

Babypasta can be very noisome to her clothes though i'm afraid. This morning was a spectacular example.

grobagsforever · 11/07/2012 11:21

Spolis the figure! It's taken me from a sixteen to a ten and I'm still shrinking.....

whatinthewhatnow · 11/07/2012 21:30

aaah, noisome means smelly! I don't think I smell more than I wouldn't if I wasn't breastfeeding. my baby's nappy is pretty noisome sometimes though. is that breastmilk's fault? iirc it smelled lovely until she started having solids. now it's rank.

BerthaKitt · 11/07/2012 21:35

Noisome means smelly? Blush I thought it meant it interfered with one's clothing. Which it does a bit. Don't think it makes my clothes smelly, well not since the first few weeks when I had a wee oversupply problem and resembled a lactating garden sprinkler.

I would imagine in those days one probably wore the same undergarments for months at a time, so probably would be full of stale milk and be very whiffy.

Pastabee · 11/07/2012 22:12

Yeah, but you'd be smelly anyway so stale milk would be the least of your worries surely?!
