Quick question re: pumping during night

First night at home after having DC2. Having to express from one breast as he can't latch onto it yet. Had similar problems with DD so have hired pump.

Question for tonight is: do I have to sterilise the bits of pump each time I've expressed in the night, or is a rinse okay? I've forgotten since last time.

Nope - no need to sterilise with breast milk

Hot soapy water and air drying

Don't over express at this stage - your milk may not have come in

Try hand expressing as well and you can feed with a syringe too

Congrats on your baby :-)

I used just put the whole pump in the fridge attached to the bottle. That sort of depends on the type of pump though, I was using a medala one scbu gave me and it was compact and told up easily.

I washed it in the morning and either steralised (whilst he was in scbu) or put through the dishwasher (once we were home)

You can also rinse and put them in the fridge.

Stood up, not told up (dyac)

Should have clarified btw... I'm with ruby one the no need to steralise issue but I steralised in scbu as I had enough to fight with hcps about without adding sterilising to the list!
