I'm due to leave hospital today after a C-section, and have to leave one of my lovely drugs behind (panics). When I get home, can I take neurofen? Or is there something along those lines if not....

You can take codine, paracetamol, diclofenac/voltarol.

Is neurofen ibuprofen based? If so then thats ok.

VivaLeBeaver · 02/07/2012 08:06

Don't they give you tablets to take home?

VivaLeBeaver · 02/07/2012 08:09

Have looked neurofen up now, yes if I were you I'd take it with some paracetamol as well.

You can take both together (as long as neurofen doesn't contain paracetamol and according to their website it doesn't look like it does).

I took paracetamol, codine, and ibuprofen. I think it was codine that bungs you up though so just remember that ;)
Don't forget to keep taking them all regularly so that the pain doesn't come back! They set me up with a regime when I left hospital which my DH reminded me to stick to!
Congratulations and good luck!

There's a BFN factsheet on painkillers here that should help. They also have a helpline that you can call if you need to chat about medication options.

Congrats on your new baby :)

Thanks. I wasn't sure, because obviously it was a no during pregnancy.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the drugs are sent home. Except the one which is my best friend at the moment :-D

Be careful with codeine, but paracetamol and ibuprofen are fine.

You could ask your midwife for advice too.

I breastfed on co-dydramol. My sister was prescribed codeine for a badly sprained ankle while BF her toddler. Your MW will send you home with proper pain relief, don't worry, you won't have to manage on Nurofen alone!
