Hi I'm new to mumsnet but just wondered if anyone had used or knew anything about Enfamil milk.
The HV has reccomended it for my ds 4 weeks as he is quite unsettled and she thinks colicky. it's lactose free. He's only been on it 5 days and to be quite honest I@m not sure there's a huge difference. Switched from SMA Gold.

Enfamil do a speciality 'lacto-free' formula but they do others as well, so you need to make sure you get the right one.

To be honest, some experts would feel that if your baby is thought to be lactose intolerant, he should be properly diagnosed. This is a speciality formula, normally given to babies on medical advice. I think it can be prescribed for babies who actually need it, so a proper diagnosis would save you money

Has your baby always been colicky and unsettled? Is his overall health and weight gain ok?

tik tok to be honest I think you're right I think one of the problems is you just grab at anything anyone offers you when they're so tiny and unsettled but am starting to have second thoughts. Also the main ingredient of the lacto free is glucose syrup! ds1 had reflux and had gaviscon until she was one but she vomited for England from day one. Am starting to wonder after reading some of the other threads whether it's more reflux but non vomiting kind. General health, poos and weight gain absolutely fine so really a bit rash to assume lactose intolerance. Thanks for replying, feel much better knowing there's people out there!!Thanks also secur for your message all support gratefully recieved.

Do check this will your HV again - sounds as if it's worth a bit more discussion. Soya formula (which is also lactose free) is loaded with glucose syrup (they have to put it in to make it palatable as there is no lactose) and there have been serious concerns about the effect on teeth (you can look up soya formula and see this on Mumsnet talkboards). If Enfamil lacto-free is also highly sweetened in this way, it may have similar risks...I dunno.....but it's worth a thought.

Good luck
