Tonight I fed DD BEFORE her bedtime bath. Upon her "last feed" of the day, she didn't want it as she was full. Usually I feed her until she's almost drowsy and then pop her in her cot. I have now put her in her cot, very much awake and have run away!

She's asleep!

Now I'm going to pray to the MN gods that she will repeat what she did last night which was a sleep from 8pm to 630am!!!

Have my Fx'd for you.

Can I borrow your DD? I'd like her to come and have a word with my DD about how to fall asleep on her own at bedtime!

showtunesgirl · 27/06/2012 22:39

lizzywig it's taken a while to get here, DD is 7 months old!

She's been good at self-settling without a boob for a while for naps but I haven't dared try this out until now for the bedtime one. It just so happened today that she was very hungry BEFORE bedtime.

If you haven't tried it, I would recommend doing Pantley's Pull Off. I did it gently when DD was about four months and even before tonight she was happy to be almost asleep but not quite before being put in her cot.

I still don't get why feeding DCs to sleep matters. I did it for years, it is beautiful. I miss it.

I hugged my 11y DD2 to sleep on the sofa a night or two back. Trouble is DH has to carry her to bed.

NoComet · 27/06/2012 22:48

I guess feed to sleep for naps would be a pain, but DD2 didn't do naps (nursery pick up for DD1 was at exactly the wrong time)

showtunesgirl · 27/06/2012 22:49

StarBallBunny, for us, it was already not really working. Now that it's her decision to get herself to sleep, she's much happier.

Ah she woke up half an hour ago. Oh well, it still worked for about four hours!

If it's worked once it'll work again, if you keep at it then she'll get the message. My problem is not that I can't put her down, DH can't put her down, she just won't go to bed for him. She goes to sleep for nap 1 without milk but not nap 2 or bedtime, she's almost 8mo, on the plus side she's been sleeping through since she was 9wo so I guess you can't have it all.
