How much formula does your older, previously bf baby drink?

DD is 10 months old. I'm going back to work next month so am cutting out the daytime feeds

She eats food very, very well and is huge (27 lbs at the last weigh in about 6 weeks ago)

She doesn't seem to miss the boob at all but when I give her some formula she'll happily slurp about 2 or 3 fl oz and then is done. She won't have any more

She's always been a very quick feeder (on the boob for max 5 mins even when young) but hadn't ever fed excessively often

Anyway, is it normal for a bf baby to not bosch a whole big bottle like a ff baby would?

And bearing this in mind how many offers of a cup of formula should she have during the day (still bf first and last thing?)

Thanks

I haven't switched from bf to formula but DD3 had to have bottles for a week twice when I was in hospital (6m & 9m). Then she took no more than 120mls but usually around 90mls (3-4oz) this is even considering that at 6m she wasn't on solids so needed breast or formula milk for all her nutrition.

She is 2y 8m & bfing and still doesn't have more than 100mls of cows' milk or other drink in any one go and even then it takes a while for her to drink it (unlike DD2 is 4y 7m & bfing and can happily drink 3-400mls in one go Shock)

If you are still keeping am/pm breast feeds then just offering one or two cups a day is fine, if you are going to just formula then she needs around 20oz a day of formula (though you can count dairy in foods towards this).

Thanks truthsweet, that's helpful

So I'll offer one or two cups when I remember and hope she's getting enough when bf

She eats a good, varied diet so hopefully will be getting what she needs

And I guess she might start drinking more formula as she gets used to it (just in time for switching to cows)

I am reading with interest as my son is nearly 10 months and currently has morning, afternoon (usually half 2 ish but sometimes a bit before nap at 12:30 too) and bedtime bf and I am going to have to leave him next weekend overnight one night for a wedding abroad :-( and my m

Woops posted early

My mother is looking after him and will feed him from a bottle (formula - I cannot be bothered expressing in advance for 36 hrs worth of feeds) - I have a feeling he won't take much as he is v quick on the boob. He has basically been EBF until now so I have no idea how much he takes in a full BF. Just from how he feeds I reckon he has 60/70% of his milk at the first morning feed.

Truth sweet - why do they need so much more if having formula vs breastmilk? I have always been pretty sure is no way he is getting the 20oz min just cos he is so quick on the boob but I guess can't know for sure...

When studies have been done on bf babies they have found the amount taken varies enormously - from 0ml per feed to 200-odd mls (I can't recall the actual figures off the top of my head unfortunately) - so you just can't tell really. However speed of feeding doesn't = amount taken so a quick baby could still take more than a slow feeding baby.

Not a terribly helpful answer sorry!
