Is let down ever going to get better?

12wks in and letdown still hurts like a b*h! Esp. when on a full boob. not only does my whole chest sting but when she's sucking it feels like my nipples are getting really pinched (even though they're not as it stops once let own's done).

It's not getting any better and I'm just wondering if I'm stuck with this now if I breastfeed past 6months? I was originally counting down the time to stopping but after 10wks I started changing my mind as it is just so easy in every other way...

In my experience it does get better. My let-down was really for forceful and at times painful for weeks. Do you get any other pain during feeding, or sore nipples? If so I would get someone to check your latch.

Do you have any BF 'support', a group or bf counsellor? If not I would definitely recommend finding somewhere local to you. Then someone can check everything looks ok when you're feeding.

Good luck. I bf for ages but it was a tricky start....with support it became fantastic and I'm so glad I persevered.

Supply tends to settle down around 3-4 months, so it may stop hurting then in association with that.

BoPeep mine is still painful at 16 weeks, but getting less so. Hoping once we get past 4 months it'll go even more. I find that expressing helps, if it's a time when I think DS won't feed for a while (ie when he's gone down in mid evening and usually sleeps for his longest period) then I express some milk to stop it all getting too much.
Like you I was counting down to 12 weeks, now I vary between counting down to six months and wondering if I should keep going till he self-weans as I do love it in so many ways, even with the pain!
