Fenugreek and more milk??

Have any bf mums taken Fenugreek, i was asked about it the other by a new mum as she had read an excerp that said it was good for milk production??

Would love to hear from anyone who has tried it.

My advice to her was to speak to the GP and an approved alternative practioner first.

i took it and it had no effect at all

unless you're having problems with milk supply there is no need for anything anyway...

It only good for short term supply boosting - to permenantely up your supply you have to pump more often or for longer periods of time, or add a night express, fenugreek makes every bodily excretion Stink of maple syrup which sounds ok but is viiiile trust me!

I've been around the block when it comes to expressing and milk supply upping!

maple syrup? it was more like curry here! lol

has she tried expressing when her baby is having a sleepy time?

OMG starlover, I wondered why all my clothes smelt of curry!!
I started taking it, but also started feeding more frequently, and just realised I have inadvertently ditched the fenugreek- not taken it for a few weeks now. Guess there's no point unless dd indicates her displeasure at there not being enough milk for her

Ohh slight word of warning, fenugreek changes the way the milk tastes, which annoyed DS if I remember rightly...

Fastasleep, you only expressed?? how did that work out, did you express from day 1? very interested to hear about it.

Many of my mum's feed in the day and i bottle at night and they express as needed at night and this has not had an detrimental effect on supply.
