Ready for next teat size at 5 weeks?

DD is now taking upwards of an hour to take a 5oz feed. This morning she took 2 hours. She keeps breaking off the feed to burp, or falling asleep on the bottle.

She won't go down after a couple of ozs, so I know she's still hungry. In fact, she has only managed to have 2 4oz bottles today; last week she was finishing 5oz per feed, and feeding every 3 hours.

She has become much more windy in the past three or four days; this has coincided with her taking longer and longer to feed. The GP has prescribed Gaviscon for the wind which has made her more comfortable, but has made no difference to the length of time she is feeding for.

Does all of this mean she needs a larger teat or could it be something else?

yes I would try the faster teats. If you are adding gaviscon to the milk then it can also make it thicker and therefore harder to get the milk out

I didn't realise that Seona, thanks. Will give it a go.

I had this trouble when my dd started on gaviscon. I had no idea that it would make milk much thicker and so became very worried when it looked like she had forgotten how to suck! Poor thing was obv trying but not getting anywhere so just gave up and went back to sleep. Sp yes, when using the gaviscon, use a bigger teat.
