How do I 'top up' with formula?

I'm breastfeeding 7 wk old twins and finding it really hard going. Everything was fine initially but during the last wk or so they just meet seem to be satisfied and want to feed constantly.

I'm thinking of continuing with breastfeeds but topping up with formula and wondered if anyone could offer advise as to the best way of doing this. I understand that it could just be a growth spurt perhaps but to be honest I'm finding feeding hard work even when try aren't feeding constantly so mixed feeding would probably be the best option for us.

The boys are around 9lbs and as mentioned are 7 weeks old. How much formula should I offer? Should I only offer formula every three hours regardless of how often they want to breastfeed? Is there a better way of topping up, perhaps breastfeeds and formula feeds rotated?

Any tips would be gratefully received.

Thanks!
