Iron in breastmilk

DS is 9 months, he is bf and blw. I went to give blood the other day, and wasn't able to as my iron levels were too low - at the lower end of normal, but nothing to see a doctor about. So it got me thinking, does this mean that DS is not getting enough iron from me, or does he get all he needs, then I get what's left?

You get the dregs! See here for more details.

For your own sake it would be worthwhile looking at ways to up your iron intake (be it change diet or supplements) as low iron can make you feel pretty rough.

Thanks TruthSweet thought that might be the case. I feel ok despite the low iron (other than normal mum tiredness of course) but any excuse to eat more steak!

Worth remembering too that babies are supposed to be getting lots of iron from solid foods at this age - so you could give him some steak to gnaw on too Smile
