Is this 'normal' for a 5 day old?

He b.fs about every 2/3 hours from 8.30am-7pm approx, then cluster feeds from 7-12am, then feeds/has nipple in his mouth from 4.30am-8.30am. This is very tiring obviously, though to be expected..

I know there's no such thing as 'normal', especially with babies, I just don't remembr it being this difficult with DD1. He often goes frantic, cries a lot in the night time hours too. Can anyone shed any light?

DS started off with colic when he was 3 days - didn't really kick in properly until 3wks - but it was definitely that early that it started.

Yes sounds normal to me, you're sounding impressive stoic! You're establishing milk supply, he's stoking up.

At 4 ish days, feeding went mad. I phoned the mw unit at 1am after 8 hours solid feeding, panicking something was up, and, how would it ever stop! Mw suggested feeding him lying down side by side so he nodded off. Best tip, what a relief. Til he wanted a top up after an hour or so!

Thanks. Yes I can only feed him on my side, had episiotomy. Crikey, I hope it's not colic! Going to cranial osteopath this week hopefully..

I'm thinking feeding frenzy. IME anyway, colic did appear but started early evening not all time. And it didn't make him a frenzied feeder either, he didn't know what he wanted.
I think you just have a greedy guts on your hands!
