twin boys!

Hi everyone.. Just a bit of advice really and is this ok! My twin boys are 8 weeks old on monday, born at 35 weeks so premature, twin 1 is feeding 4oz and doing well but twin 2 is only taking 2oz, he has reflux and is on medication but its like his stomach can only take 2oz every bottle, he is a very sicky baby too, sometimes sicks the whole bottle up! He never takes more than 2oz.. Is this ok or could there be something wrong with his stomach or something! He is putting on weight ok so not worried about that! Any advice would be much appreciated.. :)

Hello and congratulations on twin boys - they are fab!

One of mine possibly had reflux (never had it tested and with hindsight it could have been a few other things) - its horrible but it does get better.

How often are you feeding both of them and are you feeding on demand or to a schedule?

I bfed so its different but mine fed every 2 hours during the day (the one with reflux sometimes every 90 minutes) although they went for longer at night.

And have you been back to your GP recently about the vomiting? It may need a change in medication.

Sorry I can't help more - others know much more about reflux and feeding prem babies.

Hi and congratulations! My DTs were born at 31 weeks and had reflux. They were on 3oz for what seemed like an age, they came home from hospital at 8 weeks old and were fed four hourly but never finishing the 3oz. I used to find that one would drink more than the other at each feed, but ovrr 24 hours they would have drunk the same amount.

It may be that your twin 2 is just different to his brother - is he gaining weight? Also, if he's on Gaviscon have you moved to a variflow / teat for thicker liquids, he may be getting tired trying to suck the Gaviscon as it's so thick? What meds is he on? Mine were on Gaviscon, Domperidone and Ranitidine (and still on the Ranitidine at nearly 11 months).

He is on number 2 teat which flows quite quickly but he manages it! Yes he is on domperidone and ranitidine.. They are feeding every 3 hours.. Yes he is gaining weight, he sicks up a lot of his bottles but as I said he is gaining weight so is keeping some milk down!
