Weaning from boob to bottle...

Hi all,

Does anyone know the best way to do this? My 6mo ds is now on 1 bottle ff a day. He had been ebf up to this point so has done well to take a bottle so easily.

When I up it to 2 bottles a day is it best to do 2 bottles in a row (thus going up to 9ish hours without a bf) or do bottle followed by boob then second bottle after that? I know the whole point of introducing bottles slowly is to give your supply time to slow down so 9 hours in a row without a bf (if he feeds every 3 hours) seems quite a long time this early in the weaning process?

Anybody got any advice on how they did it?

TIA

I would do bottle, boob, bottle, boob etc to give your supply a chance to ease off.

I seem to remember than dropping one bfeed every 3-4 days was the best way to go, to avoid engorgement.

Thanks Jojay, I think I will follow your advice.

Yes, my ds has been on 1 bottle a day for the last 2 weeks and the uncomfy full feeling in my breasts by the end of the day is just beginning to lessen so think its time to introduce bottle number 2. I will definatly take it slowly to let my supply adjust - engorgement is not fun!
