Favourite places to feed

Following the dreadful experiences of mnetters in M&S and Clarks and the nice thread about breastfeeding in France I thought I'd ask where your favourite public places to feed are?

The first really public place I fed was John Lewis which all went very well for me given how cack handed I was at the time but my favourite place is a local cafe where the owner brings you a free refill if she sees you feeding always asking where she should place the cup for you etc. So kind and considerate.

My favourite place is the local MacDonalds franchise

I used to work for them while at college and even then in the 90s when a customer complained about a mother bfing, the customer was told they (the management) were NOT going to tell the mother to stop and if the customer didn't like it they could leave. The owner's wife bf all 4 of her children and I have sat next to the owner's mother who praised me for bfing my baby (who wasn't really a baby then - more of a toddler!).

They couldn't be more welcoming to families and I always get a seat even at lunchtime (even if the staff has to ask some teenagers to move upstairsBlush) and get my tray carried for me (I'm always pushing a pushchair not terminally lazy!).

So far I'd have to say home!! DP always gets me sorted with a drink and the remote, and snacks if I need them. Even 8 month down the line :)
However he's a bit of a fusspot when I'm feeding DS out n about. Will make fuss about finding comfy seat/quiet area/those people are staring kinda thing. Bless his heart though, he does try

Oh that's lovely. I wish everywhere was like that. I think the nicest place was in the feeding room in a Westfield mall in Australia! Very family friendly.

Oh yes, there's nothing like your own sofa and sky remote!

Great example truth. I don't expect any special treatment and will feed DD wherever she is hungry but I must admit it is always nice to be welcomed!

Just to buck the trend I've always felt very welcome in M&S! A member of staff in their cafe actually poured my tea for me once while I was BF cause I couldn't reach.

Costa have always been great, as have Cafe Nero & Pizza Express.

The worst was a Mothercare feeding room & a Boots feeding room. In Mothercare I was given filthy looks by a very young mum who was feeding her 12-14 months ish boy a large sausage roll who commented to her friend loud enough to hear that it was "fucking weird to still be feeding a baby that old". DS1 was 8 months. In Boots a woman came in to change her baby with her husband and drew a curtain around me because "my husband doesn't need to see your breasts". After these experiences and a horrible experience early on where I ended up feeding DS1 in a disabled toilet while I cried & cried I grew a very thick skin!

Aaah bella how horrible. You've just reminded me of trying to use the feeding room at an out of town Mothercare and finding two blokes reclined on the feeding chairs. All my 'I'll feed my baby where I like' resolve disappeared and I fed her in the car.

pastabee with DS2 I have actively avoided feeding rooms. I've fed him just about everywhere and anywhere, including in a swimming pool Grin

Babylon1 · 04/06/2012 10:45

The local bluebell woods while taking part in a fun run 3 weeks ago when DS was just 2 weeks old Grin

Had him in his Tomy Roma carrier on my front, literally popped him on, pulled my t shirt down and carried on!! 3 mile fun run (walk) in 42 minutes pushing dd2 in her stroller with ds1 BFing for at least 20 of those 42 minutes!!!! Grin

EauRouge · 04/06/2012 13:50

Anywhere where I can easily reach a slice of cake and a cup of tea Grin

Least favourite so far was a messy play session because I ended up with green breasts and it took a couple of days for the paint to come off.
