Bitten hole in nipple

scrivette · 02/06/2012 07:35

My 11 month old has just bitten my nipple and appears to have taken a chunk out of it/split it.

He keeps biting this side and it was sore anyway. It is bleeding and so painful, I am dreading the next feed (but don't want to stop).

What can I do to help with the pain/healing? I have squirted milk all over it. Ouch ouch ouch!

painkillers

lanolin

when baby bites stop feeding him for about five mins put him in cot and say no biting. He will learn that if he wants boob then no biting.

also too help heal feed from the other boob and then try to go 3 hours before feeding on the painful boob.

Hug and good luck

Ouch. Dd2 did this to me, you have my sympathy.

I tried saying no, and stopping feeding for a few minutes, but found this very difficult, especially when I was doing the bedtime/ night time feeds.

Nipple shields helped me, as well as cream to help healing.

Call any of the bf helplines, scrivette - there are a number of options you can do, and you can decide which is likely to work best for you.

If the affected nipple gets too bad, you can rest it and just feed from the good side - you can gently express if the bad side gets uncomfortable. You don't need to worry about supply at this stage as supply will return in the bad side when you return to it :)
