Quite a while ago when I had my second lot of mastitis, the GP said I could take paracetamol. I asked if I could take Ibuprofen too and she said 'not really is breastfeeding, but maybe if you take it just after a feed so there's a big gap before feeding again'. My baby was 3 weeks old, there were no 'big gaps'
Anyway, since then various pharmacists and then today the denstist and then the pharmacist in the chemist (where bizarrely even paracetamol etc were locked in a cabinet and you had to ask for them!) told me I could only take paracetamol whilst breastfeeding and not Ibuprofen.
I know that if you can usually take Ibuprofen (I think some people can't due to asthma etc) you can take it while breastfeeding, so why don't health professionals know this basic info. Today it resulted in me being told to 'ring my GP then' when I said I could take it and they refused to sell it to me, so after a root canal I had to go somewhere else to get more painkillers. Gah!
