i only have 4 oz of ebm in the freezer and dd has decided that she wants lots more in the daytime at nursery. would it be ok to give her some whole milk for a feed if I am caught short later this week? she's 10 months old.

Would think formula probably better if she will take it - maybe carton?

Think gut is too immature for drinking cows milk at this stage - but am happy to be told otherwise if I am wrong.

Yeah! You can use whole milk in cooking and stuff from 6 months. They only advise against it as a drink as it doesn't have a high concentration of vitamins and minerals, etc. But if your baby is on solids, she'll get those from her food now, so you'll be fine to use it every now and then!

Dh and his siblings all had milk straight from the cow from 6 months, no treatment or nothing! He grew up on a dairy farm!

i'd have thought as a one off then it'd be ok... but i wouldn't do it regularly

I personally would give cows' milk if you have not previously given formula. It is ok on cereal etc so I don't think it is a gut thing, more that the milk doesn't provide all the right nutrients whereas formula has it added. At 10m and for one or two feeds, I imagine it would be ok?! I'm sure I've read on MN that the introduction of cows' milk is 9m.
But I'm only at 8m so I'm not best placed to say, only imagine what I would do in your shoes.

Racers · 20/02/2006 21:00

Sorry, x-posts and I meant to say that introduction at 9m is in Australia - not sure why I omitted that small detail

i'm thinking of doing it along the lines of well it will probably be 4 or 6 oz of of the 12 she seems to be having at nursery plus she breastfeeds the rest of the time she is with me.

her solids intake is a joke. she treats it like food is just a fad she intends to bypass.
