Does anyone know if it's ok to take Kwells whilst BF? I'm going on a long car journey next week and I usually get motion sick!

Not sure, what's in them?

nannyl · 31/05/2012 09:50

no idea about those exact ones, but i think the anti-sickness tablets i had when pg (for HG) could also be used for travel sickness...

I am expecting to be sick next time, and dont intend to wean DD yet, so i will probably be taking 3 a day for 9 months while BFing!

go to your dr and if baby is under a year you will be prescibed them for free Smile

nannyl any idea what was in them / what they were called? I happen to have a doc's appointment tomorrow so can ask then!

Kwells' active ingredient is: hyoscine hydrobromide. However, as with nearly all medicines the usual disclaimer of BF mothers should not take it is stated everywhere.

Have you tried crystallised ginger for travel sickness? It works really well. No dairy before travelling also works.

showtunesgirl · 31/05/2012 11:18

Nope, ginger doesn't work for me. It's the movement in the fluid in my ears that's the prob and only tablets will do the trick.

Poor you! Best to check with doc and pharmacist to make sure. I am sure it'll be ok though.

I had great trouble getting a pharmacist or gp to prescribe anything for travel sickness. I have inner ear damage so have great difficulty travelling without becoming ill. The breastfeeding network are great as you can speak to a pharmacist & they ok lots of over the counter medicines that pharmacists & gp's say can't be taken. I have been taking Sturgeron regularly while breastfeeding & they work really well.

Bless the Breastfeeding Network! I emailed them and they've got back to me and said that it will be fine for DD who is 6 m/o. I don't know if this applys to all ages though.

They are fab, they were a really brilliant when I needed to go on a long journey to attend a funeral & pre pregnancy would need 3 lots of meds to manage that. Gp had said no way & suggested sucking sweets! but they OK'd all my meds.
