Moving into a routine?

Hi MNers

My 6mo DS has been ebf on demand since birth. He now has 2 meals of solids a day whenever it fits in around bf and naps. I'm looking to start moving him onto ff and want to get him into more of a routine as his naps have totally gone to pot recently, and even his once very easy bedtime has been horrendous the last couple of nights (could this be the temperature?). Anyway, my question is how do you make the transition from feeding on demand to a routine? My DS doesn't wake up at the same time each day so I'm finding it hard to get a routine in place.

I know there are no easy answers but I'm hoping you wise mums can help this first time mum who is totally in a flap! TIA!

I would start by fixing a bedtime and a window for morning (e.g. if he isn't awake by 7.30 you go into the bedroom and start rustling around to wake him gently). Then give mealtimes a rough time - e.g. breakfast about 8, lunch about 12, tea around 5.30.

With all those fixed points in the day, a routine will develop. I can't remember how many naps they generally have at that age, but if it's two it would probably be one in the morning and one after lunch. Or whatever.
