Breastfeeding and immunity etc

Currently weaning EBF DD 10mo onto FF. Last week, down to 2 breastfeeds a day and my period returned (with avengance, but that's a whole different thread) so obviously my body's aware that things are "afoot".

At the same time, DD came down with a horrendous cold. Never seen so much snot come out of a child before. She has not been ill at all before now.

Coincidence? Or does the breasfeeding immunity thing "switch off" at the same time as periods switch back on?

It doesn't switch off at all, she will still be getting antibodies from you. But fewer, obviously, and less of the balanced nutrition in general which will help protect her, because she's getting less milk.

She would still probably have got the cold anyway, but it might be worse because of the switch.
