Iron supplements and breastmilk

Does anyone know anything about how breastmilk reacts when a mother has been put on a high dose of iron after bleeding during labour? Does iron cross over in the breastmilk? I believe too much iron can be harmful for a baby.

Check with your pharmacist but ferrous sulphate is ok in breast feeding. Your pharmacist will have information on which drugs are safe in bf. good luck :-)

Kellymom states iron taken by the mum will not increase iron levels in breastmilk here. It will help you though!

I lost 500ml of blood having DS and was prescribed iron supplements at my 6 week checkup. I found that they made him colicky so I stopped taking them. As the bf stopped my periods, my body restored its own iron levels by the time I'd stopped at 7 months.
