DS is 5 weeks, EFB on demand which is fine during the day. He feeds every 1-1.5 hrs, one boob per feed. At night he goes 3.5-4.5 hrs which sounds great but is doing my boobs in.

I become engorged at night & had masitis A couple of weeks ago ecause of this. I've been advised only to express the minimal amount to be comfortable at night which I've been doing & told they will adjust. When will this happen?!

Woken tonight with two huge boobs, one of which is lumpy & looking red. Have feed the baby as much as he will take & dont know know what's the best thing to do. Really don't want to get mastitis again. 6 hours between feeds is too much for them. If I express will this increase what is already an oversupply?

What would be the best way to manage this, it's the same thing every night.

i would say that the shallow latch is everything to do with the tongue-tie! Shock

you must insist on a referral for that - it's not just about bfing, but it can affect speech later on, too.

if you do get it done privately, then i thoroughly recommend that you put in a harsh letter of complaint to your PCT afterwards.
that's just shocking.

Good to know I'm not the only one with these issues _ Charlie. Until i posted here it hadn't occurred to me it could be TT related. I'm more convinced then ever now they're related.

Not expressing is probably the way forward. I will just have to brave it and take pain killers. Each boob went seven hours last night in-between feeds (with me waking him). I lose my nerve around five hours and start panicking about mastitis.

The positioning is completely different in each side. The unruly boob has a fast let down which leads to lots of gulping/struggling & even more difficulty latching. I tried varying positions today which helped. I also found my local le leche group which I'll go to.

I made some enquiries about getting the TT done privately. By chance I eded up speaking with the lead lactation consultant in my area. She was quite annoyed i hadn't been referred already & plans to speak with the midwives I've been seeing about criteria. The good news is we have an appointment for Friday so v pleased!

That is great that you have an appointment. I hope the engorgement settles quickly. Try not to worry about mastitis after every engorgement. If the breast is emptied well at the next feed your body will work it out. Well that is my philosophy. It is great that your little one is starting to sleep better and once your discomfort settles you will sleep better too so good all round!
