Fluconazole - Should I pop the pills?

DD is just over a year. Left boob has been sore for a few days - hot with stabby pains. Can feel it constantly in background now - feeding gave bit of relief but today sore. GP prescribed fluconazole but nothing for DD - is it a good thing to take it? Could I have probs with latch/attachment a year in or is it likely to be early stages if thrush?

Have read stuff on BN site re thrush & am swaying towards not taking them for now & heading along to local BF group tmrw to see if someone can look at latch/help. Am still in two minds though am feeling under weather generally bit like a head cold so not sure if it is the start of something more sinister & I should take the buggers to nuke it!

Going to your BF group sounds a good idea. I don't know if you saw this leaflet while you were on the BFN site? What you've said reminds me of when I've had blocked ducts but then I've never had thrush, so it clearly wouldn't remind me of that...

Thanks RedKite - I took the initial dose Sad really don't want it to turn nasty. My DD has just fed from the other boob which was sore & has left a rather fetching indentation courtesy of her top teeth. We've been through the joys of feeding whilst teething many times (she has 16 now) but am thinking it may not be a coincidence......You'd think after a year it'd be much easier! Keep your fingers crosses for us that normal service will be resumed v v soon Grin

Pain is worse today Sad She is leaving occasional teeth indents & I can feel her dragging on the boob - trying different positions/expressed from sore side & using hot/cold flannels & massage. It's constant pain - hot/ but deep within breast. It can feel better when she's feeding but can also feel worse. Am on day 3 of pills - just want back to 'normal' (moan over!) Keep repeating the mantra 'this too shall pass!'

if it feels like you're feeding ur lo glass through your ducts, than you may have ductal thrush. I had this with dd1, and was eventually prescribed after 7 appointments from various useless gp's fluconazole for me, and Daktarin oral gel 4 dd. it worked wonders.
You could always take asophdillis (sp) suppliments from H&B, and other health care stores, if you don't want to take fluconazole. I took it with the thrush pill to be sure to get rid of it, as had it for months :(

Thanks LD - I have started on the fluconazole. DD wasn't prescribed anything despite me asking. My other boob has been occasionally achy but nothing like the sore one! BN seems to suggest it's not thrush if not in both boobs - maybe I've been lucky?!? to catch it early enough! Would probs with her latch cause constant pain even when not feeding?

I was diagnosed with thrush yesterday & prescribed fluconazole, Nystan for DS (although had to insist they treat him) & Clotrimazole for my nipples but changed this to daktarin oral gel. Could buy this from the chemist for DD & treat her?

I only have pain in one boob as you describe, plus he won't stay latched on, nipples are sore. Think I've caught it early but feel pretty sure it's thrush rather than latch issues as have it elsewhere & just finished 5 weeks worth of antibiotics.

Also been advised to avoid sugar which is a bum as i usually turn to chocolate to get through these things!
