How many dirty nappies in 24 hours

My 12 day old dd hasn't had a dirty nappy since yesterday morning , she's ebf and up until Sunday she was pooing with every feed. I'm not sure if im sleep deprived and being neurotic or if I should be worrying .
She is having plenty of wet nappies and is alert when she's awake but does seem very gripey and windy. Any advice would be appreciated . I just don't remember being this poo obsessed with my other Dcs

This young, there is no such thing as normal. Yes, you are sleep deprived and being neurotic. Anything goes for the first few weeks.

After a few weeks once things are settling down, anything between 5 poos in a day and one big poo every 5 days is perfectly within the range of normality, and even outside this range there can be nothing actually wrong.

So long as the nappies are wet and milk is going in, there's no need to worry.

Thanks for the reassurance . I made the mistake of googling and most websites said they should be having at least 4 dirty nappies a day. As I said I don't remember getting so obsessed with nappy contents with my other Dcs .

I'm not sure I agree with "anything goes in the first few weeks" tbh.

It's usually after about four weeks that babies poo pattern becomes a bit less predictable and days without poos aren't unusual.

However, in a baby this young, at least 3 poos a day are generally what is 'expected'. That's not to say that there is anything wrong with your baby mammy, it's just unusual and worth keeping an eye on IMHO.

A lot of ebf can go several days without a poo and not be constipated. Don't worry Smile

My ds was ebf and we didn't see a poo from him until he was 6 days old - He had me worried sick! He was absolutely fine, and even now (10 months) he can go a day sometimes with pooing, you have nothing to worry about, however I fully understand your worries as I was in exactly the same position myself!

crikey is right - the 'anything goes' idea is responsible for a lot of ineffective breastfeeding going missed.

At 12 days 'no poo' is unexpected - but the fact this is just a new thing and all else is well is very reassuring.

Babies don't usually get bf going well and then suddenly 'lose' it at 12 days.
So my money is on everything being perfectly ok, but you can always check with HV/midwife if you are worried. It would make sense to have her weighed soon, and then you have another thing to assess by.

Thanks for the replies. We've had 2 dirty nappies since last night so panic over. I wouldn't mind if it was PFB but this is dc6 Blush I don't think sleep deprivation and late night googling are a great mix.
