Lumpy breasts

I've just finished BF my 8mth DS. His last feed was about a week ago. I've noticed now that I have lumps and bumps in my breasts that are particularly noticable when I'm lying down. Is this normal? Will it go away?
(I may be excessively tired but I do think the lumps move around Confused)

I think it's quite normal. I stopped bf at 16mo - cutting down feeds very gradually - and I still had lumpy breasts for a week or two, even though DS was eating a lot of solids then and it was very gradual.

So I imagine that at 8 months, you might get lumps for a week or two. If it hasn't cleared up in a couple of weeks, go to the doctor but I imagine it's just you adjusting to not feeding any more.

I was hoping that it was normal. I had cut down on the feeds very gradually until he was only on one a day. I suppose I'm just looking for some reassurance. Thanks

I certainly wouldn't worry for at least another week or so unless you get any redness or a fever (which might indicate mastitis).

I did occasionally massage the lumps down a little bit when I gave up bf. I think you are supposed to try not to touch as much as possible so they don't get stimulated, but it did help ease the lumpiness a little for me.
