Is this inevitable?

They're worse than they were at the beginning I'm back to that wincing when she latches on aaaah!

dd bit for a short while when the teeth were new, then stopped and everything got back to normal. I'm not sure if it's inevitable but I never worked out how to stop it!

Good luck.

Hi ninja - how old? DS got his bottom two at 4mo-1wk and started to nip. When this happened I firmly said "No, no biting" and the feed stopped. Continued feed 10mins later and repeated when necessary. He did it about 4/5 times over a couple of weeks and [touch wood] it hasn't happened since (now 5mo), only the odd grazing which isn't his fault (ie, he's not doing it on purpose like before). Still waiting for the top ones to drop.... don't know what it'll be like then, but hopefully the same firmness will work. HTH

she's nearly 7 months, we had a few nips with the bottom ones but now they're not a problem but the top ones just feel like rasor blades all the wat through the feed.

plus she grings her teeth - is this normal?

dd's top teeth came through at around about the same time as a bout of gastroenteritis, so she was feeding very very frequently and my nipples got quite blistered, it really did feel almost like feeding a newborn! It also felt like my areola were being grated, and I think that was caused by the top teeth. By this stage I think we may be a little lax about positioning, and I found that going back to first principles helped a lot. Also, once the top teeth were fully through the gums the 'scraped' feeling went away and her teeth don't bother my boobs any more.

Unfortunately she loves chewing on the thigh seam of my jeans when I'm sitting down - ouch ouch ouch!

I agree with boyandgirl about the postioning, I found this with DS2 after he got his top teeth, sometimes they would be uncomfortable and I was have to take him off and reposition him (we had both got a bit lazy). Also I felt I toughened up and often after a feed you could see the imprint of the top teeth but I wasn't sore.

My DS1 grinds his teeth and I sometimes think he is far from normal, the dentist has mentioned it but I don't think it is anything to worry about, I apparently do it too although I am completely unaware, probably do it in my sleep. On the other hand it may be a facination with her new teeth, discovered she can do it, likes the noise/sensation and she might just stop again.

She might like the noise and sensation, demented - I can't stand it! It's like that fingernails down a blackboard thing.

Yes it does feel as if my areola are being grated. I never really had to work on my positioning at the beginning so I might have to get some help with that, but I guess I do just tend to shove her on. Unfortunately having gone through a short feeding stage she's becoming all suckly again.

Hope it gets better for you ninja. Guess I've got this to come!
