Teeth marks and biting...

My DS is 11 months old and still EBF. i am back at work 3days but expressing once a day, and so far DS now feeds morning, eve and middle of night (sometimes twice).

He has been teething on and off for month, as they do, but the four teeth he currently has, two each top and bottom, have grown very prominent now, and it seems he cant help but rest them on my nipple when he feeds. Whenever he finishes he's usually left teeth marks top and sometimes bottom too. Not necessarily a problem in itself as they disappear fast, but hes also tending to bite when hes finished, or when he wants the other side, and has broken the skin on one side -ouch! This has made me v sore on that side, as it seems no matter how I position him he always seems to reopen the puncture mark with his teeth! I did stop feeding him that side, and expressed instead, for a day, to let my boob recover, but although its sort of almost healed, its very tender, and the Bfing hurts that side :(

(I have approached the biting by taking him off firmly and calming, saying no, and placing him down for a minute. He has stopped doing it so much, but is still doing it enough to make me anxious!)

I dont want to stop BF at the moment, and in any case DS is CMPI and I am his only milk source because he refuses to drink the prescription formula could potentially drink instead. So i need to work with this situation and try and find a comfortable solution for us both somehow.

Any ideas anyone? I have searched the MN chat archives and tried the suggestions offered, relatching etc, but no dice...

hi, you have my sympathy. I dont really have any answers. DS has 8 teeth and leaves a perfect imprint of this top teeth after every feed. I havent worked out how to stop his. If he is feeding his tongue is forward and covers the lower teeth so maybe as soon as stops actively feeding you could take him off.

Ouch, poor you! DD does something similar although thankfully she hasn't broken the skin yet. It sounds like you're already following all the advice I've read. I found that expressing a little bit of BM and rubbing into the sore bit after feeds seemed to help it heal. Also, if your DS clamps down, pulling him in to the breast might make him let go so you can get him off without doing more damage. Hopefully somene with more ideas will be along soon.
