I have just switched from breast to bottle. Should she feed every 3 or every 4 hours? How much should she take at each feed? She weighs 15 pounds, so is quite big. I NEED A ROUTINE ! [silent scream]

She should feed when she wants and take as much as she wants. There is guidance on the tin regarding average amounts babies will take.

Hang in there, koala! She'll get a routine. Mears is right, they should be demand fed, be it breast or bottle. Give it a week or two and she'll let you know how often.

thanks - i had no problem demand feeding on the breast - but on the bottle? well, we'll see how we go

I bottle fed ds, he was a big baby (9 12 at birth) and I just gave bottle when he needed it. This was sometimes every 2 hours, and sometimes he would stretch to 4 hours.
I found the so called 'advice' on formula tins about how much to feed a load of tosh.

thanks - thereis so much conflicting advice - drives me nuts

You may find yourself having to waste a few feeds until you and she get it down how much she needs and how often. Like if she just wants a snack. Don't be too fussed, it's better that she has a fresh feed on demand than give her one that may be off.

Also, just as w/breastfed babies, their feeding needs can vary and change.

Use the instructions on the box as a guide at first and see how you get on. Like mumfor1sttime writes, you may need to tweak how many ounces you make at any time.
