How often does/did your Bf baby feed during the day at 4 months (18 weeks etc)?

I'm just wondering, as DD is asleep (Shock ), and she normally feeds every two hours or so.

She normally falls asleep on the breast, having one only at each feed (in the evening, she'll have both breasts, but that's after pulling and getting frustrated at one so I swap her over - she very rarely does this in the day, but goes into a sort of slumber, not a full sleep, because she wakes up when I unlatch her and go to burb her.)
sometimes she'll still do "feed me" signs (eating her hands, poking out her tongue etc), but normally she's not bothered.

I feed her when we're in bed, and we get up at half 8. then she'll want food again at about 11 (i've tried to do it earlier if she looks like she wants it, but she normally refuses, as if she's not properly hungry yet), then at about ½ 12 or 1 ish, then about half 3 (or between then and half 4).
she's asleep now, but she'd normally be eating now.

Er dd feeds every 2-3 hours in the day, quite quick feeds as ds distracts her. Overnight similar because she gets bad wind and wants relief despite my efforts to stop her.

Her day feeds:
6am wake up (although this feels like a snack as she eats overnight)
9am
11am, 1am, 3pm, 5pm then bedtime feed at 6pm for 90 mins Hmm

All one boob feeds.

NoFoodwithaFace · 18/04/2012 16:41

My DS fed constantly at that age. I ended up weaning at 5 months because I just couldn't cope. He was every two hours 24-7

nickelhasababy · 18/04/2012 16:44

oh, good, Iggly - was worried about the one boob feeds, because everywhere I've read says "offer both boobs"

food - i think dd is the same (we co-sleep so she eats while i'm asleep)

About every 2-3 hours during the day and every 4-5 hours at night. DD is also a quick feeder.

nickelhasababy · 18/04/2012 16:49

lucky you!
dd takes nearlt an hour each time!
(i count from the beginning of a feed.)
it used to be tedious, but no I get antsy if she's not asking for food!

Sounds similar to my 16 week old. I only offer one side during the day, as she also tends to drop off when she is finished.
She does the pulling, on/off thing in the evenings too. Sometimes I think this is because she is tired rather than hungry. When she's really frustrated I have been known to just take her off and put her to bed. Sometimes works, sometimes not!

YoullLaughAboutItOneDay · 18/04/2012 16:52

Two hours night and day until about 8 months.

Now about 3-4 times during the 12 'awake' hours, and every bloody hour or two still at night.

Both my DD's have only ever taken one boob. I can offer all I like, but they are not interested. So eventually I stopped offering. Feeds are quick though - about 10 minutes to start with, now down to about 5. Again, both dd's have been the same.

DD1 started sleeping through the night at 11 months, and DD2 is 10 months, so I still have hope Grin.

nickelhasababy · 18/04/2012 16:56

good, I/we sound normal then Grin

disco - she cams down when i swap her over.
if she doesn't i do put her in her little chair for a nap. (she doesn't do "bed" yet)

I think our babies were born the same day nickel. He feeds at

2am (both)
4.30am (one or both)
6.15am (both)
08.30 (both)
10.30 (both)
Then when I think about it - he doesn't really cue so probably 12 ish, 2ish, 4ish, 5ish - usually one boob at these times.
6.30pm, one
10.30pm, both.

fhdl34 · 18/04/2012 18:25

My DD is 15 weeks. I feed her from one side only unless after a usual full feed length (about 15 minutes) she starts fussing and then I swap sides. This doesn't happen often.
She feeds irregularly throughout the day starting whenever she wakes up (usually around 8-9am), sometimes twice in an hour, but usually every 1-2hrs. I take her up for a final feed about 9pm and she usually has both breasts then.

nickelhasababy · 18/04/2012 22:13

yes, dd doesn't seem to cue either.
(or at least i don't recognise them)

I can't wait to get her down to 15 minutes! I might get some proper work done (oh, no. that's a bad idea - i can use my excuse of not being able to move from the desk to MN! Blush)

justabigdisco · 18/04/2012 22:19

Ah I might try offering other side when she's fussing then.
She used to root etc but no hunger cues now.
