I've told my shields 'it's over'.

It's been a mixed relationship.... Nipple shields allowed me to breastfeed but I've never liked using them. Feeds are slow, feeding in public is tough etc.

Following suggestions from eaurouge and redkites that I try weaning again we've finally done it! Haven't used them since Sunday!

I guess at coming up 5 months she has a big enough mouth to overcome the flat nipples. I always read threads about successful shield weaning and thought 'I'll never manage that' so v proud that I have done it!

Doing fine pastabee. I've given up the ghost on bottles and am moving onto a Mam trainer cup. Thought I might as well as weaning is coming up soon!

Pastabee · 12/04/2012 21:22

Baby pasta has a cupboard in the kitchen now full of little bowls, pots, cups etc ready for weaning..... Got a bit carried away at Sainsburys baby event! Been giving her a bowl and spoon to play with and sitting her in her highchair. She loves flinging the bowl onto the floor. Holds it over side, looks at me, flings and grins!

I'm trying with a cup too. I've been putting a drop of cooled, boiled water in it and putting it on her highchair tray as though it's a toy. It's working ok in that she takes sips so I'll try it with milk soon.... She'll be furious when she realises she's been tricked!

i know this is an old thread but pleased to read it. we're 6 weeks in and still using shields as baby just cant seem to latch well and drain breast wthout them (had lots of good input). Its good to see we may well be able to ditch them as he grows :)

Pastabee · 23/06/2012 13:27

Still going strong at over 7 months meconiumhappens. I just wish I'd tried weaning her off them sooner.... I tried a lot up to 6 weeks or so and then just accepted she couldn't do it. That was Christmas and I didn't try again until Easter! I'm sure she'd have 'got it' sooner had I tried!
