I have mastitis and am a long term expressor..... Now I am working to express every 2 hours!!! Am in pain and have to take horrible antibiotics.....not sure if DD3 will be ill from antibiotics as I gave up bf with DD1 as a result of her reaction to antibiotics after a bout of mastitis.... I also got thrush in the breast afterwards as a result of the antibiotics... I think I am reliving a nightmare and cannot do anything to prevent it from happening.... Howver DD3 is 4 weeks old today and I have just read about the link between menstrual cycle and mastitis..... argh...... am so tired....and feeling so yucky....

No advice but huge hugs, this is tough. Hope it clears up soon and you can carry on BFing.

I have been where you are and felt as if I was going crazy. A combo of pumping, formula and BF got me through. Have you tried cabbage leaves in your bra? No idea why they work, but they do!

Yes, cabbage. I tried the big green ones but I don't think it matters. Cold cabbage leaves give lots of relief. Also try hot and cold alternating compresses. Best advice I can give is, don't beat yourself up, and look after yourself and your baby. Food is food. Drink lots of fluids yourself, but if you supplement with formula it's not the end of the world! Good luck!!

Keep the cabbage in the fridge, peel a leaf off when you need it and put it next to your skin inside your bra. random site backing up my experience!

Sounds really rubbish. Maybe there is something on this link that might help too.

The soaking a nappy in hot water sounds like a good idea, also taking probiotic to help avoid thrush?

Hope you get some relief & it passes quickly
