sterilising breast pumps

last time, i borrowed a friend's medela mini electric pump and remember using my microwave steriliser. this time i've bought my own, but seen the instructions say not to microwave and to boil or dishwasher it. is there any reason you can think of why i can't use cold water sterilser?

If it's an electric one, are there metal parts within it? If so that's probably why you can't micrwave it. If not, I have no idea

is it the ameda one?

if so then i think it shouldnt be microwaved, (no idea why) but i cant see why you cant use milton?
