Mastits? Thrush?

Hi just wondering if anyone can help?

I had mastitis last week and have managed to get rid of it without taking the ab my GP prescribed, thing is since the mastitis my nipples are really painful during the initial latch on, particularly the breast that had mastitis.

I have treated myself for thrush in the past but at the moment I have no pain after breastfeeding. My nipple looks quite peeley and there is a creamy coloured blob on the nipple, that nipple also has a large milk duct which sometimes looks blocked.

Any ideas?

It sounds like thrushon the nipple pookey.
It's only painful after breastfeeding if the thrush is inside the milk ducts so perhaps it's just on the nipple.

If it is thrush you need to treat yourself and the baby until it's gone. Also you have to wash your nipples before each feed which is a PITA because the cream tastes nasty and you don't want to put the baby off.

Keep nipples as dry as possible (thrush thrives in moist damp atmosphere) go topless when possible, cut down on yeasty and sugary foods and drink.

Good luck.

I had thrush on and in the nipples, feels like pins sticking in.
GP didnt know baby can pass it on, but HV gave me Daktarin cream to clear it up.
Like Spidermama says, keep them dry as possible.
Expressing and bottle feeding EBM rather than feeding baby helped me for a couple of days.
Hope it clears up quickly x

i had a couple of episodes of thrush when feeding dd2 and the daktarin oral gel rubbed on the nipples after feeding worked well for me. There is no need to wash it off prior to feeding. The gel can also be used to treat your babe as well. Just check with your chemist regarding the dose. Cleared up in no time.

Thanks everyone, I have started using daktarin oral gel for me and ds. Thing is i think it might be a milk blister aswell because when i express I can only get a small amount of milk out despit me being engorged, mastitis has flared up again as a result grrr. Think I will have to let ds feed from the sore boob afterall. What does thrush on nipple look like?
