Suggestions for getting DS to swap his bedtime bottle to a sippy cup please

He's 18mo, breastfed but has a bottle with daddy at bedtime. Its high time he gave up the bottle but he's not entertaining a cup at all. (He uses an sippy or open cup for drinks throughout the day without any complaint).

  1. Whats the best cup in your opinion?
  1. How many times do we try it before giving up and moving onto another type? Twice? Ten? Fifty? Cold turkey and screaming refusal til he gives in?

I'm fully expecting it to take some time.

Hi, we just made persuaded him to use a beaker, the bottle fairy came and it went with her and all she left was a beaker. It took him about a week to come to terms with the new arrangement, and there was a whole lot of persuasion involved, but he soon realised that there was no other bottle coming his way and if he really wanted his milk he would have o sit nicely wth a beaker and get on with it.

On the advice of a friend we got an Avent cup which has removable handles, and was compatible with teats for the Avent bottles we already had. DD was about 16/17 months and happy to have her morning milk in a beaker.

We started off giving her the new cup with a bottle teat, then after a week or put the spout on and she was fine with that.

I am struggling to find a link to show you, but Boots sell it and it has a picture of a rabbit on the side!

What about trying feeding in a different place? When I gave up bf DS went onto an avent cup, the first few nights we had to feed sat on the floor as he associated being in the chair with bf.

You could try giving him the milk in a cup before he goes upstairs to bed.

Thanks everyone. Some good suggestions. I looked at the Avent bottle just now but its not big enough. Do they do a bigger bottle? (bottle virgin really except the one Nuk which he likes).

I may have to persuade DH to implement different position/room and maybe a bit earlier (not easy due to time he gets in) but this is an uphill battle in itself as he likes a routine.

Its time to start growing up. DH doesn't like that, he wants to keep the baby who sat on his lap with a bottle good as gold all those months...
