I had atleast 9/10 weeks of excrutiating pain with DD breastfeeding. but persevered and went on for the 13.5 months. Once we got the hang of things, it was the best feeling ever. I only weaned then because I was feeling very run down with the 2nd pregnancy, losing weight and I think it just wasnt suiting her as much. but shes happy.

I'm looking forward to breastfeeding again, but

Will I have the same difficulties? or will I be able to even do it again?

TBH, it will probably be easier in some ways second time round.

OK, so you'll have a toddler in tow this time, so that adds some interesting challenges, but in terms of breastfeeding- you know what it's about this time round. You'll know how to recognise a good latch and if the baby is drinking well, and you know where to get the help if things aren't right.

Do you know why you had such a long period of pain with DD?

Is there anything else that makes you think you won't be able to breastfeed again?

How about poping along to your local BF group if you have one (they are always happy to see postnatatl mums). You shouldn't have to suffer with pain for that long, if it does hurt it's wise to seek extra help.

Don't forget feeding a newborn is different to feeding a older baby so it's worth refressing your knolage on latch to. There is no reasion why you should be able to do it seconed time round unless you have any new medical issues.

I found bfing ds painful for the first four weeks. No discomfort with dd at all. Second time around only one of you needs to learn how!
