Breastfeeding with a sickness bug

So I'm writing from my bed of pain.... Been throwing up for hours, can't keep anything down including water.

DD is EBF. DH is looking after her and I've managed to feed her twice today but am worried about not being able to eat or drink.

Has anyone got any advice / does anyone know if this will effect my milk supply?

I continued to EBF DD when she was four months and I had a tummy bug. She had it too, but it didn't affect her ability to feed and I didn't notice my supply or anything affected. I just kept sipping water.

You may notice a transient drop in milk supply if you are very ill but as long as you continue to feed on demand it will sort itself out quickly. This doesn't signal the end of BFing :)

Continuing to feed gives her some protection against the bug and also provides her with the perfect thing to keep her hydrated if she does get it.

Thank you! Have been so worried about it damaging milk supply. She had some defrosted milk an hour ago as DH didn't want to wake me. Going to attack the water now as determined not to skip another feed.

My supply dropped significantly when I had a D&V bug, for a day or two I wasn't getting a let down at all - fortunately my DS was on solids so not an emergency, he wasn't very impressed at night though. I just kept sipping water constantly and kept letting him feed even though he wasn't getting much. I think it took about 4 or 5 days to get back to normal. Hope you feel better soon.

curly that's exactly what's happening. Sad. No let down. Just letting her feed like mad now I'm feeling better in the hope supply will increase.

Hi pasta, only just seen your reply soz, hope things have picked back up for you now, its so frustrating to be scuppered by a poxy stomach bug after all the hard work you put in to breastfeeding!

Oh dear pastabee, sorry you're not well. :(

I had a nasty vomit bug too a few weeks ago and my supply was fine.

Get well soon!

We pulled through showtunes! It must have been bad though for babyP to take her bottle..... She had a full tantrum yesterday when I tried to repeat the occurrence but at full health.....!

Hope babytunes is well.
