How many bf for an Eight month old?

I'm going back to work in a weeks time and my lo only has 1 bf during the day and morning and evening feeds, he also has 3 feeds in the night.

I'm really concerned he wont be getting enough milk when I return to work. I've tried to get him to take a bottle of formula but he wont entertain it. He'll simply go without. I'm really worried as he'll be going to nursery 2 days a week and I don't want to leave them with a baby whos crying for his mum and a bf.

Hi Dazed, think it depends on the baby but my son did breakfast, afternoon and before bed. by eight months hed dropped the 10am and all night feeds. Hv said he needs at least 20oz of milk at this age. as never used a bottle I have no idea if he had that. dairy can come from the food as well so a yoghurt counts towards the 20. Can only suggest try him with someone else looking after him for the day and see what he's like. if they call you saying he needs milk and wont settle then you know you have an issue.

my DS went to nursery at 10 months not touching a bottle. for the afternoon milk he used a basic tommee tippee beaker and over the course of the whole afternoon would take 5 oz top. was happy enough though just ate more solids. I then found tommee tippee tip it up beakers which I can't recomend enough. fully free flowing but only when baby puts lips on it. He really took to those and did a proper feed from then on.

Hope that helps

This sunday I'm staying in the bedroom while my oh looks after him. I've been trying him with a cup since 6 months old.

My 8 mo won't take bottle either. Used to always leave one with cm, but don't even bother now. He manages fine and cm gives plenty yogurt thru the day, and other solids. He is fine- I worried about constipation, but he still gets bf a lot when I'm at home and he reverse cycled for a while- although never a good sleeper anyway. I'm working ft, and used to express at work for that bottle, just don't bother now. My supply has adjusted, and he bf at weekends throughout the day aswell!! He even had bug a week ago, was off solids completely and back to ebf (I even got a newborn nappyGrin), so try not to worry, your baby will prob adjust ok, and you will tooSmile. Good luck- hope it goes well!
